My Mom was an avid nutcracker collector.  She didn’t limit herself to Christmas Nutcrackers, she had Easter Nutcrackers, Valentine Nutcrackers, Halloween Nutcrackers, you name it, she had it.  She had Steinbach nutcrackers all the way down to the little dollar store nutcrackers; she never discriminated against any nutcracker.

I used to love coming home at Christmas to inspect her little army.  She had nutcrackers all lined up on each step going upstairs; there were nutcrackers in the windowsills, the china cabinet would be full of nutcrackers.  Mom even made her own tree skirt and appliqued ornate nutcrackers all over it.

It was always a challenge each year to find yet another unique nutcracker that I could leave for Mom to find under the Christmas tree.   They didn’t have to be expensive collector’s items, they could be little cheapies so long as they were unique.  I remember one year I even bought a “raw” nutcracker and painted it and dressed it up to look like me!

One year  found a nutcracker that was 3′ tall; I was living 3,000 miles away and had to fly Mr. Nutcracker home with me.  I carried him onto my flight, and through two airports when I changed planes.  He was quite the conversation maker!  But the smile on Mom’s face was worth every second of aggravation that I went through to get him home!

I hope that some of the nutcrackers that you see here will bring a smile to your face, and maybe you’ll find one that you’d like to add to your own collection, or give to a loved one to expand their collection.  Christmas Nutrackers are timeless, and always loved by everyone.

Yes, I’ve continued in my mother’s footsteps and I now have a Nutcracker collection of my own.  Every time I adopt a new Christmas Nutcracker, I know she’s smiling down on my new prize!
